Did North Korea fail?

North_Korea_Missile_Satellite_04_article

Last Sunday, we could clearly say that North Korea missile launch was a failure. All experts agreed with that. It fell close to Japan’s coast in the sea few minutes after being launched. Few weeks ago, North Korea’s government claimed that it would be a great success. However, the North Korea’s story is not over. The threat is still there and everybody agree to say that if the international community does nothing, North Korea will try again. To Barak Obama, this is a “provocative act”.

To North Korea, this action was of course not a failure. They don’t keep on claiming that a communication satellite is circling the Earth, broadcasting patriotic songs. Truth or false? We don’t really know…

For American specialists, North Korea is far away from building a truly intercontinental ballistic missile and tipping it with a nuclear warhead. But the fact is that North Korea is deeply resolute to do it. We don’t know when it will be ready but it should be ready one day. This reason is enough to worry us. So, Obama asked UN to give a new sanction to North Korea and to resolve this problem. Besides, according to Obama, the technology to build a nuclear bomb has been spread by black market trade. He insisted on the fact that it’s time to do something. Most of the countries agree with him but I think it seems a little bite easy to say that now. The problem is here since a long time and we should have already resolved it! It’s not a new issue.

The UN Security Council wants to denounce the fact that North Korea didn’t respect the 2006 sanction. This sanction asked North Korea to stop launching all kind of missiles. Yet, countries are still talking. China’s position is a little bite ambiguous. It explains that every country should have the right to launch satellites. This right shouldn’t be taken off. And about Russia, they don’t think it was a violation of the 2006 sanction. Japanese foreign minister thinks that a UN resolution is “desirable”.

So to conclude, we are far from finding a solution… That’s always the big trouble in diplomacy. Nobody agrees so we wait, we wait….until a new action of North Korea, I am afraid! Only South Korea and that’s clearly understanding is determinate doing something. As he said, “No country will be naive enough to believe that it was a peaceful space program”. This point of view is clearly normal, I would like to say.

Many experts explained that Kim Jong Il did it to be re-affirmed as a leader in North Korea. He wanted to show to the population and the army that he is still a strong leader. It’s deeply a king of propaganda. Don’t forget that North Korean can receive any news form the international world. He managed to hide the failure.

So can we say it was a failure? Scientifically it was. The missile fell in the sea but for North Korean people and Kim Jong Il the most important was to do it, to show to the world that North Korea is still alive and not on the death way. Furthermore, UN has some difficulties. Any solution has been found yet… How could we resolve the North Korea’s issue??
