Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan President, visited Cuba last week. He is the closest politically ally in Latin America. This sentence is particularly surprising for everybody. Fidel Castro has not been in public since a surgery in 2006. He was deeply ill. The former president, now 82 and still the Cuban Communist party leader, has been replaced as president by his brother, Raul Castro, 77. Chavez added that Castro was “really, really well”.
