US & China military agreements

Since United States Secretary of State’s trip in China, the relationship between both countries never been as deep as today. Hillary Clinton threw a new dialogue and both countries seem now, agree to work “hand by hand”. They planned to find some agreements about “modern topics” like global warming, economic crisis, international security or human rights but (of course), both also expect some eco-military agreements.  I hear about “eco-military agreements”, military agreements which include money…

Last week in Beijing, American’s and Chinese’s military officials organized a meeting to get negotiations.  It has been mentioned that theses talks were the best for 18 years. In order to describe it, David Sedney (the under secretary of defense for East Asia) said it was “intensive, very productive and useful”. Military relations between China and America were suspended by Chinese the last October. They didn’t really accept that their “American friend” sold arms to Taiwan. Furthermore, it was a huge command of $6.5 billion. We can just add that it’s not the once that this relationship was perturbed cause of Taiwan. Despite some efforts from the new Taiwan’s government, the dialogue is still hard between Taipei and Beijing.

Yet, China couldn’t keep longer such situation. Barack Obama’s arrival was a perfect occasion for Chinese to revive military talks. As soon as the new government was created, China expressed its expectations. Last two months, both countries ever worked together to combat piracy in Africa.

At first glance, China could be a threat to America. China is still growing economically, politically and culturally in a certain way (for instance, Olympic Games). It expects becoming a huge power next decades. In that way, it seems a little bite dangerous for US selling weapons to China. But as we always say: we have to be closer to ours enemies than ours friends!

However, America is faced others troubles: the economic crisis and North Korea. In the first case, there is no doubt that some dollars could help the American economic. Hillary Clinton ever asked China to go on buying American Treasury bond during her trip. Next, China could be a source of stabilization in Asia. China shares common borders with Pakistan, India, Burma and North Korea. Since North Korea is preparing to launch a new missile, it’s urgent for US to stabilize this area. Moreover, China can be a nice ally for US. It ever happened that China and European Union disagreed. So, in that way, Beijing could be a good support for the White House. Yet, if China must become a strong military power, it should destabilize and worsen Taiwan’s issue.
